Grades Should Not Wait Till It’s Too Late

Just reviewed an email sent to us from a parent that is asking ViewMySport for help….. Their son had multiple “verbal” offers from colleges awhile back, but in the meantime, his grades tanked and apparently, he (or the parents) did nothing to address it, until NOW!

1) Verbal offers mean absolutely nothing in today’s recruiting environment! They’re thrown around like Monopoly money and are used for a variety of strategies, very much the way today’s high school athletes are now “committing” to colleges, only to change their mind in front of a press conference on signing day, leaving a coach with an empty bag. It’s part of the game and YOU have to be smart and know how to navigate around it. Primarily, continue with your recruiting efforts as if nothing has happened….YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID!

2) Thousands of dollars are spent on kids’ sports equipment, extra training to get faster, stronger and more skilled in their particular sport, camps and separate “elite” team play. NEVER do we see student-athletes or their parents pushing or making it part of their routine to do proactive tutoring in order to make the grades better! You have a 3.0 GPA, great, get extra work in to try to make it a 4.0! Don’t wait until you are at 1.9 GPA before you start working on your class work or get extra help/tutoring. By then, it’s too late and you’ll be doing things like asking recruiting services to try and work miracles!

The eligibility requirements are pretty straight forward as to what you need to qualify with both the NCAA and the NAIA! Again, don’t wait until it’s too late! Also, the better your grades, the more opportunities for scholarship offers and financial assistance, PERIOD!!! – Your #1 College Sports Recruiting & Scholarship Networking Resource!
