Recruiting Highlight Videos – A MUST HAVE!

A “Must Have”, but certainly not a “Must Spend”……

We get a lot of calls and e-mails at the ViewMySport.com offices from athletes and parents wanting to know if we do video taping for recruits or if we know of anyone we could refer them to……First of all, “no”, ViewMySport.com does not provide video services.  There are a lot of video services out there and a lot of individuals that can do it for you “on the side”.  Do a search for your area via Google or use the Yellow Pages.

Wrestling – Foot Speed and Coordination

How and Why

Throughout the many camps and clinics I conduct, I have been asked how to increase foot speed and agility. Foot speed in wrestling can be an advantage, but keep in mind, it doesn’t necessarily make or break your chances of winning. The good wrestlers, whether they are fast or slow, will adjust their strategy to accommodate their strengths and weaknesses.

For example:   Dave Schultz, Olympic & World Champion, and arguably the most technical wrestler we’ve ever had, claimed he was not as fast as many of his opponents. Therefore, against faster opponents, he always maintained a controlled tie-up in order to close the distance from his opponent. By controlling a tie-up, Dave was able to achieve two objectives. One: he was close to his opponent and could use the tie to set up an attack. Two: he eliminated his opponent’s chances of using speed from outside (of tie-ups) because he forced a tie-up.

Rowing – Getting Your 2K Time Down

So, you want to get noticed by a College Rowing Program, but your 2K time is not within the desired College Range.  Rowing is a very complex exercise using almost every muscle in your body.  While practicing rowing, you are training your body and mind to blend a sequence of movements into one graceful, powerful, and effortless motion.

1.   To accomplish a better score on the indoor rower you need to start with Proper Rowing Technique.  Ask your coach to video tape you on the indoor rowing machine from the side and review it with him/her.  Better yet, actually have a live feed on a television of you rowing.  You will be able to see what needs improvement, make appropriate corrections and not only feel what it is like to row properly, but also see what it looks like to row properly.

Top 5 Tips To Increase Basketball Scholarship Offers

1.) Playing for an AAU Team That Travels Nationally
Here is what Tennessee head basketball coach Bruce Pearl said recently about the basketball recruiting process: “If you’re in the AAU program and you’ve got a decent team, then the summertime is when you’ve got a chance go make a name for yourself. You can’t hunt bear in the lodge, so kids have got to go out there at these tournaments and give us a chance to evaluate them.”  Playing on an AAU team that travels the country in tournaments is the #1 factor in getting a Division I basketball offer.  I have seen numerous kids get scholarships simply because they played on a good AAU team.  They had to play well at the right times but this certainly beats sitting at home working out with your teammates.  With basketball, I cannot stress the importance of getting on the AAU circuit.

Lacross Drill – Wall-Ball

Most great players and coaches advocate “wall-ball” as an effective way to improve your stick skills.  But, what exactly is “wall-ball,” and what’s the best way to do it?  Simply put, “Wall-Ball” is throwing and catching using a wall instead of a team mate.  However, there are certain drills which maximize this practice.  Defensemen and goalies, you should use a short-stick instead of your d-pole.

Drill #1:  One-handed quick stick

Stand 3-5 yards from the wall and hold your lacrosse stick in the middle of stick with one hand.  Throw and catch for 60 seconds per before switching to your other hand, making sure you do not cradle.  Your goal should be 30 catches in a row.
