A “Must Have”, but certainly not a “Must Spend”……

We get a lot of calls and e-mails at the ViewMySport.com offices from athletes and parents wanting to know if we do video taping for recruits or if we know of anyone we could refer them to……First of all, “no”, ViewMySport.com does not provide video services.  There are a lot of video services out there and a lot of individuals that can do it for you “on the side”.  Do a search for your area via Google or use the Yellow Pages.

Now, with that said, a few suggestions………the # 1 suggestion is “Don’t spend money on fancy effects and background music”!  If you feel that you have to pay to have a highlight video done, put the cost into the quality of the video.  Meaning, make sure your athlete can be identified clearly in the clips.  College coaches could care less about background music, special effects, etc.  They want to see a highlight video representing your skills, not a music video!

Most home computers have a basic Movie Maker format so that if you (a parent or friend) can video tape your athlete, then you can create your own highlight videos……It may take some time, but once you get it down, it can be fun and “save” you a lot of money!  Again, the bottom line is that the college coach be able to see the athlete performing!

The beauty of having your highlight videos stored on your computer is that you can upload just about anywhere!  You obviously want to upload it to your ViewMySport.com athlete profile!  Then you can send the profile directly to as many college coaches as you want (FREE)!  They won’t have to bounce around any websites or try to find a DVD player, etc., but instead, will have immediate access to your highlights!  Again, you don’t have to worry about spending money burning multiple DVD’s and mailing them out……(and wondering if the coach has actually watched it or is using it as a drink coaster on his/her desk)

Remember, having a highlight video is a “MUST” if you want to be seriously considered by a college coach for a scholarship, so make sure you get someone to get you taped!  Whether a family member, friend or your coach…..If you have a tape or DVD from your coach of a whole game, meet, match, etc., then you may need to get a service to break it down for you, as a college coach does not want to watch a whole game, just the highlights featuring “you”!

If you have any questions about highlight videos, please feel free to insert them in the “Leave A Reply” area of this post!  Good Luck to all high school athletes out there pursuing their dream of playing at the collegiate level!
